Best time To Do The Triund Trek

Apart from the monsoon seasons of July, August, and the peak winters of January, February, the Triund trek can be done around the year.

The spring and summer months of March to June have the best weather conditions to trek in. With one extra warm layer of clothing, the trek is perfect for trekking and to escape from the harsh weather conditions of April, May.

The post-monsoon season is best for the clearest views of the mountain peaks from the trek. In December, you can expect the first spell of snowfall on the trek

How to reach Truind Trek

The base camp for the trek is Dharamkot, a little village near McLeodganj. Dharamkot is just 2 km from McLeodganj and is a short 25-minute walk from the bus stand.

Difficult Sections On the trek

Triund Trek is one of the easiest treks to do in the Himalayas and can be done on your own if you are going from the trail starting from the Gallu Devi temple.

There are no difficult sections as such but note down a few things to keep in mind during the trekking.

Wear proper trekking shoes and carry trekking poles while trekking the boulders and the rocks can be slippery

If you are trekking from the alternative route of the Bagsu waterfalls, you need to be careful about sections that are steeper and very slippery. This is not a popular route which first-time trekkers take.

 Temperatures On The Triund Trek

Depending on the season you are going to trek, the temperatures will differ according to the seasons.

If you are trekking during the summer season, you can expect the day temperatures to be around 16 to 25 degrees. During the night, it can drop to 7 to 10 degrees.

After the monsoon season and the months near to the winter season (September to December), you can expect the temperatures to start dropping. The day temperatures will be fairly pleasant at about 14 to 18 degrees. At night time, it can drop to 1 to 5 degrees.

The difficulty level of the Triund trek is easy. You will reach Triund Top in around 3-4 hours, depending on your pace. The trail runs through lush green forests and the view from the top is stunning, making the effort worthwhile.

The first 6 km are not very exhausting, but the last 2 km, after passing the Snowline Cafe, involves a very steep incline as you push to the top. This part of the trek is popularly called the 22 curves because of 22 sharp turns that take you to your camp. The presence of snow during winter increases the difficulty.

The best time to visit Triund is during the months of May-June & September-October. If you want the experience of trekking in winter, then you can go between January-March when the well-defined paths leading to the top are covered with snow. During the summer, the weather is very pleasant with clear views of the Dhauladhar Range.

It will take anywhere between 3-6 hours to reach Triund Hill Top depending on how fast you walk. The trek can be completed in a day too, however, we suggest you stay or a night or two camping under the starry sky and that's what most trekkers prefer.
